It's about making a difference.
I've always wondered why I always happen to be in the right place at the right time when someone is in need; a complete stranger usually. I was literally 1 step from my building when an older woman came up to me and asked for help. Confused and a little bit hesitant, I said "yes". Turns out she wasn't after money but instead was lost. Lost for quite some time based on her shivering. Well, with a bit of questions and small talk I came to find out where she lived and somehow managed to find an address tucked in her wallet. (Please do this for them if you know someone that has dementia or is prone to forgetting!) Turns out it was quite far from where she found herself. Eventually through some calls I was able to locate the lodge and find her a taxi. After about what seemed to be an hour of detective work I sent her on her way in the taxi and with the help of the lodge, prevented what could have been a disastrous situation. A little bit of excitement on a Friday afternoon is not really what I bargained for but in the end, I guess you could say it was an honor to serve those in need. It's a motto that those of us in healthcare should never forget, on or off duty we sometimes have the privilege to be the difference makers and touch a life. I don't know her background or where she came from but in the end I'm glad I was able to do something to help. Now after all that excitement it's time to wind down and relax for a Friday night! Cheers!
